Description

1991 Leaf is a 528-card set, issued by Donruss, in two series of 264 cards. Production for the 1991 set was greatly increased due to the huge demand for the benchmark 1990 Leaf set. However, the 1991 cards were met with modest enthusiasm due to a weak selection of Rookie Cards and superior competition from brands like 1991 Stadium Club. Unlike the classic 1990 Leaf set, 1991 Leaf is considered a "junk wax" product.

Distribution

    Gold Leaf Rookies

This 26-card insert set was randomly inserted into Series One and Series Two packs. The first twelve cards were issued in the first series. The rest were issued in the second series - the final two cards commemorating Nolan Ryan's 7th No-Hitter and Rickey Henderson breaking Lou Brock's all-time Stolen Base record were added to the checklist at the last minute.

The earliest Leaf Gold Rookie cards issued with the first series can sometimes be found with erroneous regular numbered backs 265 through 276 instead of the correct BC1 through BC12. These numbered variations are very tough to find.
