2002 Fleer Premium

Description

2002 Fleer Premium is a 240-card set released in April, 2002. Cards numbered from 201 through 240 featured leading prospects entering the 2002 season and were seeded at stated odds of one in two packs.

For the second consecutive year, Fleer was forced to add additional cards to compensate for the lack of "true" rookie cards in the base set. In late May, Fleer announced a "Player to be Named Later" program, whereby the first 2002 collectors to send in any 10 of the short-printed prospect cards (#201-#240) would receive ten new prospect cards (#241-#250). Each of the ten Player to be Named Later cards are serial-numbered to 2002 copies.

The Player to be Named Later cards were also available in a Star Ruby parallel. To receive the Star Ruby version, collectors had to turn in any ten Star Ruby Prospects. Only 50 Star Ruby Player to be Named sets were produced and each card is serial-numbered. "Player to be Named" cards were actually released in October, 2002.
