Set of the Month

1992 Score is an 893-card set released in two series of 442 and 451 cards. Like 1991 Score, this years edition was subset heavy, including: Prospects (395-424/736-772/814-877), No-Hit Club (425-428/784-787), Highlights (429-430), AL All-Stars (431-440), Dream Team (441-442/883-893), NL All-Stars (773-782), Highlights (783, 795-797), Draft Picks (799-810), and Memorabilia (878-882).

The Memorabilia subset cards all feature items from the famed Barry Halper collection. Halper was a part-owner of Score at the time.

All of the Series Two Rookie Prospects (736-772) can be found with or without the Rookie Prospect stripe.

Rookie Cards in the set include Vinny Castilla and Manny Ramirez.

Just released

2017 Topps Definitive Collection was released August 30th. An all "hit" product, each eight-card box will yield six on-card autographs and two Relics.

2017 Panini Immaculate is a 138-card set released August 16th. Each base card is serial-numbered to 99 copies. Each six-card box will contain five autographs/game-used cards.

2017 Topps Clearly Authentic will be released August 16th. Much like the Topps Archives Signature Series brands, each box will contain one autographed card in a sealed magnetic case.

Each card is signed on an acetate card that uses the design of the 2017 Topps Baseball flagship set -- but with a different photograph.

2017 Topps Chrome is a 200-card set released August 2nd, 2017. As usual, each Hobby box will yield two autographs, with Hobby Jumbo boxes having five. The usual multi-colored galaxy of Refractor parallels are included.

2017 Donruss Optic is a 175-card chromium-stock rendition of the 2017 Donruss base set, and was released July 19th. The final ten cards in the base set are autographed. Each Hobby box will yield two autographs with each pack yielding an insert or parallel. Randomly seeded "Hot Boxes" (roughly every third Hobby box) will yield either five autographs in a box, or a serial-numbered parallel in every pack.

Optic will include the first cards of Mickey Mantle in four years.

2017 Topps Allen & Ginter is a 350-card set, released the week of July 19th. As usual, each 24-pack Hobby box will include three of the following: Autographs, Relics, Rip Cards, or A&G Originals.

2017 Stadium Club is a 300-card set that was released July 12th. Each 16-pack Hobby box will yield two autographs.

2017 Topps Tier One was released exclusively to Hobby outlets June 30th, a couple of weeks later than in previous years. Each box will continue to yield one Relic and two autographs.

As usual, there is no "base set" in the conventional sense. It's all hits all the time.

2017 Topps Museum Collection is a 100-card set released June 21st -- two months later than it's tradition early-season release. Each pack will contain either an autograph or a relic. Each four-pack box will yield the following:

  • A Canvas Collection insert
  • A Jumbo Relic
  • A Quad Relic
  • An Autograph
  • An Autographed Relic

2017 Topps Series Two is a 350-card set that was released June 15th.

2017 Finest is a 125-card set, released by Topps on June 7th. After controversially (and unsuccessfully) distributing 2016 Finest exclusively on their e-commerce website, the 2017 edition returns as a Hobby-only product. Each box will yield two autographs.

2017 Topps Archives is a 300-card set, released May 31st. As has been this brand's trademark, one third of the base set is done in the style of the 1960 Topps set (which was the basis of 2009 Topps Heritage), one third as 1982 Topps (which was used as one of the designs in 2013 Topps Archives), and the final third 1992 Topps.

Topps' initial solicitation for 2017 Archives promised "wide-ranging improvements," and one such improvement (and a major one, if that) was the subtraction of "high-number" short-prints to the base set. In the previous two years, Archives was solicited as a 300 card base set without short-prints, only for Topps to deliver a final product with SPed base cards (30 in 2015 and ten in 2016). Another "addition-by-subtraction" improvement was the elimination of a celebrity/movie tie-in; replaced by a 23-card reprint insert of all of Derek Jeter's Topps Baseball base cards.

Each 24-pack Hobby box will yield two autographs and two Derek Jeter Retrospective inserts.

2017 Topps Pro Debut is a 200-card Minor League set released May 26th, 2017. Each 24-pack Hobby box will yield two Relics and two autographs.

2017 Topps Inception is a 139-card set released May 19th, 2017. The product has been reconfigured from the previous year's product, yet still maintains the heavily Photoshop filtered look and feel. As the name suggests, the product has been re-branded from Bowman to Topps, and with that rebranding is a focus away from rookies and prospects and towards current Major League players.

A conventional base set has been added, and includes a 39-card Rookie Autographs subset. In addition, the number of autographs per box has been reduced from five to only one.

Each 16-box case should yield four Autographed Patches, one Autographed Jumbo Patch, and a Silver Signings card.

2017 Topps BUNT is a 200-card "physical" card set based on, and with many ties to, the popular Topps Bunt digital card game.

2017 Bowman is a 100-card set, supplemented by a 150-card Prospects "insert" set, released April 26th. Each Hobby box will come with one autograph, while hobby-exclusive Jumbo boxes will yield three.

It should be noted that while Topps is billing 2017 Bowman as the "70th Anniversary," it is actually the 69th as the first Bowman set was released in 1948.

2017 Diamond Kings is a 175-card set featuring simulated artwork. Each pack will contain one insert and every 12-pack Hobby box is expected to yield two autographs/game-used cards.

2017 Honus Bonus Baseball is a 500-card trading card game. The set is being produced and distributed by Rittenhouse Archives, a noted producer of non-sports cards. This is Rittenhouse's first baseball set, but not their first sports card product as they have had the WNBA license for a few years. Due to their exclusive license with Topps, Honus Bonus is NOT licensed by MLB Properties and does not have logos. The product is licensed by the MLBPA.

Each card will have a unique code (concealed by a silver "scratcher" bar) that, when entered onto the Honus Bonus website, can be used as part of an on-line fantasy baseball game.

2017 Topps Gypsy Queen is a 320-card set. In response to lagging sales and collector interest, Topps has reconfigured the Gypsy Queen brand at a lower price point. Gone are the one-per-pack mini parallels, as well as the two-per-Hobby box Relics -- although each 24-pack Hobby box will continue to yield two autographs. The ten-card "mini-box," which had been a Gypsy Queen staple, is also replaced by an oversized GQ Reflections box topper.

2017 Topps Tribute is a 90-card set released March 29th. As usual, each pack contains either an autograph or a Relic.

2017 Panini Stars & Stripes is a 100-card set featuring current and former members of USA Baseball national and junior national teams. Curiously, while the set was released during the 2017 World Baseball Classic, it does not feature the 2017 USA WBC team (Topps has the WBC license).

Each pack will contain one parallel and either an autograph or a game-used card.

2017 Topps Opening Day will be released March 17th. As usual, the base set is a rehash of 200 cards from the Topps flagship. Each pack will yield one insert -- which are original to the product. Unlike in previous year's, some inserts are noticeably tougher to pull.

2017 Donruss is a 195-card set released by Panini America on March 8th. Each Hobby box will yield three autographs/game-used cards.

2017 Topps Heritage is a 500-card set based on the design of 1968 Topps and was released March 1st. Each 24-pack Hobby box will yield either an autograph or a Relic.

In a notable change to the base set's composition, the number of "high-number" short-prints has been increased from 75 to 100.
