1998 Topps Stars is a 150-card set that was distributed exclusively to Topps' Home Team Advantage stores. Every base set card is serial-numbered to 9799 copies and each pack contains four other serial-numbered parallel cards.

1993 Cardtoons is a 95-card parody set intended for release in 1993, but not issued until over a year later. This completely unlicensed set uses cartoon caricatures on its fronts to parody then-active MLB players. The backs carry comical "career highlights" within silver-colored panels on the left sides and team logo caricatures on the right sides.

 +
This product was the subject of a seven-year long court battle between the producers and the MLB Players Association -- a case eventually won by Cardtoons.

2017 Topps Archives is a 300-card set, released May 31st. As has been this brand's trademark, one third of the base set is done in the style of the 1960 Topps set (which was the basis of 2009 Topps Heritage), one third as 1982 Topps (which was used as one of the designs in 2013 Topps Archives), and the final third 1992 Topps.

Topps' initial solicitation for 2017 Archives promised "wide-ranging improvements," and one such improvement (and a major one, if that) was the subtraction of "high-number" short-prints to the base set.  In the previous two years, Archives was solicited as a 300 card base set without short-prints, only for Topps to deliver a final product with SPed base cards (30 in 2015 and ten in 2016).  Another "addition-by-subtraction" improvement was the elimination of a celebrity/movie tie-in; replaced by a 23-card reprint insert of all of Derek Jeter's Topps Baseball base cards.

Each 24-pack Hobby box will yield two autographs and two Derek Jeter Retrospective inserts.

2017 Topps Inception is a 139-card set released May 19th, 2017. The product has been reconfigured from the previous year's product, yet still maintains the heavily Photoshop filtered look and feel. As the name suggests, the product has been re-branded from Bowman to Topps, and with that rebranding is a focus away from rookies and prospects and towards current Major League players.
+
2017 Topps Transcendent was released December 13th. Only 87 sets were produced.

A conventional base set has been added, and includes a 39-card Rookie Autographs subset. In addition, the number of autographs per box has been reduced from five to only one.

Each 16-box case should yield four Autographed Patches, one Autographed Jumbo Patch, and a Silver Signings card.

It should be noted that while Topps is billing 2017 Bowman as the "70th Anniversary," it is actually the 69th as the first Bowman set was released in 1948.

2017 Bowman Draft is a 200-card set scheduled for release December 6th. Once again, the brand will feature both 2017 MLB Draft picks and assorted prospects.

2017 Honus Bonus Baseball is a 500-card trading card game.  The set is being produced and distributed by Rittenhouse Archives, a noted producer of non-sports cards.  This is Rittenhouse's first baseball set, but not their first sports card product as they have had the WNBA license for a few years.  Due to their exclusive license with Topps, Honus Bonus is NOT licensed by MLB Properties and does not have logos.  The product is licensed by the MLBPA.

Also, just like last year, the conventional Hobby waxbox has been shelved in favor of Jumbo and Super Jumbo boxes.

2017 Panini Elite Extra Edition was released December 6th, 2017. The set features players selected in the 2017 MLB Draft and other prominent prospects. New for 2017 are prospects from the Dominican League.

2017 Topps Gypsy Queen is a 320-card set.  In response to lagging sales and collector interest, Topps has reconfigured the Gypsy Queen brand at a lower price point.  Gone are the one-per-pack mini parallels, as well as the two-per-Hobby box Relics -- although each 24-pack Hobby box will continue to yield two autographs.  The ten-card "mini-box," which had been a Gypsy Queen staple, is also replaced by an oversized GQ Reflections box topper.

Set of the Month

1993 Cardtoons is a 95-card parody set intended for release in 1993, but not issued until over a year later. This completely unlicensed set uses cartoon caricatures on its fronts to parody then-active MLB players. The backs carry comical "career highlights" within silver-colored panels on the left sides and team logo caricatures on the right sides.

This product was the subject of a seven-year long court battle between the producers and the MLB Players Association -- a case eventually won by Cardtoons.

2018 Topps Series One was released January 30th. For the fourth consecutive year, Series One base set will consist of 350 cards. And for the third straight year, the set will have a borderless design.

Once again, each 36-pack Hobby box will yield either an autograph or a Relic, while Hobby Jumbo boxes will one of each plus a manufactured "Relic."

2017 Bowman Draft is a 200-card set scheduled for release December 6th. Once again, the brand will feature both 2017 MLB Draft picks and assorted prospects.
