1990 Leaf

Description

One of the Hobby's true "landmark" products, 1990 Leaf is a 528-card set released in two, 264-card series. Designed by Donruss to directly compete with Upper Deck, the cards were issued in 15-card foil wrapped packs and were not available in factory sets. Each pack also contained one three-piece puzzle panel of a 63-piece Yogi Berra "Donruss Hall of Fame Diamond King" puzzle.

The card fronts feature a color player photograph. The cards have a non-glossy finish with a white border. The card reverse has a color head-shot of the player with full career stats. The cards have a non-glossy finish with a silver background.

The set was available at Hobby dealers, and in select retail outlets -- primarily along the West Coast and Great Lakes regions.

Rookie Cards in the set include David Justice, John Olerud, Sammy Sosa, Frank Thomas and Larry Walker.

This 12-card set was presented to Hobby dealers to announce the pending arrival of 1990 Leaf Baseball. The cards are in the same style as the other Leaf cards were done in except that "Special Preview" was imprinted in white on the back.

As with Leaf's sister-set Donruss, each 1990 Leaf pack contained one, three-piece Puzzle panel. There are 21 panels that, when assembled together, create an original Dick Perez portrait of Yogi Berra.
