1993 SP
Description
1993 SP (By Upper Deck) is a 290 card set released August 23rd, 1993. Part of the first generation of "super-premium" baseball card sets (along with 1993 Finest and 1993 Flair), the set is notable for featuring the first cards with foil-etching on the entire surface of the card front for the foil prospects subset. Further, the Derek Jeter Rookie Card was one of these foil-etched cards and became his most notable RC because of the design and the condition sensitivity of the set.
The Platinum Power inserts were the first die-cut inserts in the baseball Hobby.
The product was originally titled Upper Deck XL. Cards promoting XL were distributed at the 1993 MLB All-Star FanFest.
