2000 SP Authentic

Description

2000 SP Authentic is a 194-card set released in two series. The first 135 cards were issued in July as part of the SP Authentic product and included a 15-card Superstars and a 30-card Future Watch subset, each being serial-numbered to 2500 copies. The final 59 cards were released in December as part of the 2000 Upper Deck Rookie Update product. The Rookie Update series contained another 29 Future Watch cards, each serial-numbered to 1700 copies.

Distribution

SP Series: 24 packs per box, five cards per pack (MSRP: $4.99). Hobby only.

Rookie Update Series: 15 packs per box, four cards per pack (at least one is from SP Authentic). Hobby Only.

DiMaggio Memorabilia

Randomly inserted into packs of 2000 SP Authentic is a Joe DiMaggio Game-Used Memorabilia card. Each card is serial-numbered to 500 copies, with a Gold parallel numbered to 56 copies also available. Five DiMaggio Game Jersey card with a cut signature were also produced.

Chirography

A Gold parallel serial-numbered to the player's uniform number (see below) is also available. Some cards packed out as redemptions which expired March 30th, 2001.

Buybacks

As they had done for previous SP/SP Authentic sets, Upper Deck re-purchased a group of SP/SP Authentic cards from 1993-1999. These cards were then signed by the player, hand-numbered on front (please see listings for print runs), and had a serial-numbered Upper Deck Authenticated hologram sticker placed on back. A Certificate of Authenticity (with a matching UDA serial-number) and the signed card were placed together in a soft plastic "penny" sleeve and then randomly seeded into 2000 SP Authentic packs.

Jeff Bagwell, Ken Griffey, Andruw Jones, Chipper Jones, Manny Ramirez and Alex Rodriguez did not manage to sign their cards in time for packout, thus exchange cards were created and seeded into packs for these players. The exchange cards did NOT specify the actual vintage card that the bearer would receive back in the mail. The deadline to redeem the exchange cards was March 30th, 2001.
