[[2004 Upper Deck Vintage]] is a 500-card set release in two series. The first 450 cards were issued as part of the Vintage series on February 02, 2004. The final 150 cards in the Vintage series (cards #301-#450) are short-printed and seeded into packs at varying levels.

[[1994 Flair]] was a 450 card set produced by Fleer. Series One featured cards 1-250 and Series Two featured cards 251-450 in the base set. The design was similar to the previous year's set. Each card was printed of 24-point thick cardstock, with three additional points of UV gloss on each side; making it twice as thick as a traditional standard card.
+
The last 50 cards in the set (cards #451-#500) are known as the Update Series and were distributed exclusively as a factory set inside Hobby boxes of 2004 Upper Deck Series Two. Each Series Two Hobby box came with an unmarked and shrink-wrapped Update Set box from one of four possible 2004 Upper Deck early-season products: Vintage, Reflections, Play Ball, and SP Game Used Patch. Collectors had to break the shrink wrap to figure out which set they received; however, about two-thirds of the sets were Vintage.

The order forms for the Series Two was submitted at around the same time that the 1994 MLB Players strike commenced. For years, it was thought that Series Two boxes were produced in much smaller quantities than Fleer originally intended. However, shortly after Alex Rodriguez was acquired by the New York Yankees in 2004, a large number of Series Two boxes mysteriously emerged in the market.

The cards in the base set were grouped alphabetically by team within each league, with the AL preceding the NL. Notable rookie cards included Chan Ho Park and Alex Rodriguez. An Aaron Sele promo card was distributed to dealers and hobby media to preview the product.
