Description
2001 Upper Deck is a 450-card set released in two series. Series One consists of 270 cards and was released in November, 2000. Subtitled the "Midsummer Classic Edition," 2001 Upper Deck Series Two is a 180-card base set and was released in June 2001.
As the subtitle suggests, the inserts and game used cards in Series Two have an All-Star Game theme.
The set contains two of the more notable rookie cards of Ichiro Suzuki and Albert Pujols. Both cards are among the few "true" rookie cards of each player that were neither short-printed nor serial-numbered, making them both accessible and collectible. Because of their accessibility, both player's cards have been heavily submitted to professional graders.

e-Card (S2)
Randomly inserted into Hobby boxes as a two-pack box-topper, this 12-card insert features cards with a code that when entered onto a special Upper Deck website, adds a corresponding "virtual" card to the collector's "virtual" collection. In addition, randomly selected e-Cards can "e-Volve" into autographed and game jersey cards.
Unlike the e-Cards that were distributed in 2000 Upper Deck Series Two, the code on some of the cards is concealed by a silver bar that must be scratched off.
The website for the e-Card program was discontinued in 2004.

Participants in Upper Deck's e-Card program could receive special e-Volved Jersey cards by entering the code printed on the front of each e-Card. When the code was entered, and a jersey card of the depicted player appeared, the bearer of the base card could then exchange their "virtual" e-Card and receive the Game Jersey upgrade via mail.
The design closely mimics the 2000 Upper Deck Game Jersey inserts except for the gold foil "e-Volve" logo on front. Each e-Volve Jersey Card is hand-numbered to 300 copies and are sequentially-numbered with an "eJ" prefix.
An autographed version of each card is also available. Each card is hand-numbered to 50 copies and has an "eS" prefix.
